UX, wireframes & prototypes

BAs use UX tools to make requirements tangible. Wireframes, prototypes, personas, journeys, and usability tests do not replace requirements; they reveal assumptions and create a shared language for experience and behavior.

01 · CORE LESSON

Build the mental model.

Use visual fidelity deliberately to clarify structure, test interaction, and validate user outcomes.

Low fidelity supports fast structural discussion; higher fidelity supports interaction and visual validation. More polish increases cost and the risk that stakeholders mistake a learning artifact for the finished product.

  • Wireframe: layout, hierarchy, content, and navigation.
  • Mockup: static visual treatment and design detail.
  • Prototype: simulated interaction used for testing.
VISUAL MODEL

Fidelity and learning ladder

Increase fidelity only when the next decision requires it.

02WireframeValidate structure and flow
03MockupValidate visual hierarchy
04PrototypeTest interaction and comprehension

REAL-WORLD EXAMPLE10

Testing a refund request flow

Users abandon a six-step support form and contact the call center instead.

  1. 1

Map the current journey and identify uncertainty around eligibility and evidence.

  2. 2

Create low-fidelity alternatives for progressive disclosure.

  3. 3

Test realistic refund tasks with representative users.

  4. 4

Refine rules, content, error states, and acceptance criteria from observed behavior.

OUTCOME

The validated flow reduces steps and clarifies eligibility before users invest time uploading evidence.

03 · INTERVIEW PRACTICE

Business Analyst interview questions to practice.

Open each answer, then practice saying it naturally in your own words.

SUGGESTED ANSWER

A wireframe is a low-fidelity structural view; a prototype simulates enough interaction to test flow, behavior, and usability.

04 · KEY LANGUAGETerms to use accurately.
01

Fidelity

The level of detail and realism in a design artifact.

02

Persona

A research-based model of a meaningful user group.

03

User journey

A view of user steps, context, touchpoints, and experience over time.

04

Usability

Effectiveness, efficiency, and satisfaction in achieving goals.
